Recap:

PEORIA, Ariz. — The Mariners scored 5 runs in the 5th inning to top the Brewers, 5–4, on Sunday afternoon at Peoria Stadium. Yusei Kikuchi made his third start of the spring and tallied 6 strikeouts over 3.1 innings pitched, while allowing only 1 run on 2 hits and 1 walk.

Kikuchi recorded 5 consecutive strikeouts spanning the 6th-10th batters he faced. Kikuchi left the game with the score tied 0–0 after recording one out in the top of the 4th inning, but he was charged with an earned run as his inherited runner came around to score in the inning. Today marked Kikuchi’s third start of the spring. Overall, he has posted a 3.24 ERA (3 ER, 8.1 IP) with 4 walks and 9 strikeouts.

Following Kikuchi’s exit in the top of the fourth, the Brewers jumped in front, 3–0, with a bases-clearing double by Zach Green down the left field line.

The Mariners got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a leadoff homer by Jack Reinheimer. The rally continued with four consecutive hits by Mitch Haniger (1b), Dylan Moore (1b), Ty France (1b) and Kyle Lewis (2b) to even the score at 3–3, still with no outs and runners on second and third. Luis Torrens chipped a sacrifice fly to put the Mariners in front, followed by a single from Evan White that brought the score to 5–3.

Rafael Montero, Kendall Graveman, Keynan Middleton and Joey Gerber combined to keep the Brewers at bay over the last 4 innings. Together they allowed only a solo home run over 4.0 innings pitched, while striking out 5.

The Mariners will remain home at Peoria Stadium on Monday, taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks for the first time this spring. Left-hander James Paxton is set to make his first start for Seattle, with Arizona rolling out right-hander Taylor Widener for a 1:10 pm first pitch at Peoria Stadium.
