Mariners Sign Steven Souza Jr. & Chance Sisco

Souza Jr. and Sisco each received an invitation to Major League spring training

PEORIA, Ariz. — Seattle Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves:

· Steven Souza Jr. (#21), OF, signed to minor league contract with an invitation to Major League spring training.

· Chance Sisco (#41), C, signed to minor league contract with an invitation to Major League spring training.

Souza Jr., 32, is a veteran of 7 Major League seasons with the Nationals (2014), Rays (2015–17), Diamondbacks (2018), Cubs (2020) and Dodgers (2021). Overall, the 6-foot-4, 225-pound outfielder is a .230 (380x1650) hitter during his big league career, with 223 runs scored, 71 doubles, 8 triples, 72 home runs, 206 RBI, 42 stolen bases and 198 walks in 499 games. He most recently appeared with the Dodgers in 2021, playing in 17 games and slashing .152/.222/.333 in 36 plate appearances.

Souza Jr., who bats and throws right-handed, was originally selected by the Washington Nationals in the 3rd round of the 2007 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Cascade High School in Everett, WA. He made his Major League debut with the Nationals on April 13, 2014 at Atlanta.

Sisco, 27, is a veteran of 5 Major League seasons with the Orioles (2017–21) and Mets (2021). Overall, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound outfielder is a .197 (102x517) hitter during his Major League career, with 61 runs scored, 24 doubles, 16 home runs, 54 RBI, 1 stolen base and 62 walks. He appeared with Baltimore and New York-NL in 2021, playing a combined 28 games.

Sisco, who bats left and throws right-handed, was originally selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2nd round of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Santiago High School in Corona, CA. He made his Major League debut with the Orioles on Sept. 2, 2017 vs. Toronto.
