Mariners Select RHP Ryder Ryan to 40-Man Roster, Option him to Triple-A Tacoma

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced today the Mariners have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Ryder Ryan and optioned him to Triple-A Tacoma.

The Mariners Major League, 40-man roster is now full at 40 players.

Ryan, 28, has made 31 appearances with Triple-A Tacoma this season, going 3–2 with 1 save, a 3.72 ERA (16 ER, 38.2 IP), 38 strikeouts and 15 walks. He was signed by the Mariners on December 19, 2022 as a minor league free agent and received an invitation to Major League Spring Training.

The Huntersville, North Carolina native has appeared in parts of 7 minor league seasons in the Cleveland, New York-NL, Texas and Seattle systems, going a combined 20–22 with 18 saves, a 3.88 ERA (135 ER, 313.1 IP), 345 strikeouts and 132 walks in 239 games (3 starts). Ryan was twice drafted by Cleveland — in the 40th round of the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of North Mecklenburg High School (NC) and in the 30th round of the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of North Carolina. Ryan has yet to make his Major League debut.

Ryan was part of Team USA at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, helping the United States to a silver-medal finish. He did not allow a run in 4 appearances spanning 5.0 innings during the tournament.
