Mariners Recall RHP Robert Dugger from Triple-A Tacoma

SEATTLE, Wash. — Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves:

  • Robert Dugger, RHP, recalled from Triple-A Tacoma.
  • Justin Dunn, RHP, placed on 10-day injured list, retroactive to June 1 (right shoulder inflammation).

Dugger, 25, was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma post-game on May 31 but did not appear with the Rainiers. He’s appeared in 8 games (2 starts) with the Mariners this season, going 0–1 with a 6.06 ERA (11 ER, 16.1 IP) with 17 hits allowed, 6 walks and 16 strikeouts. He started the season at the Mariners Alternate Training Site and was recalled on April 26.

The right-hander has appeared in 19 Major League games (11 starts) with Miami (2019–20) and Seattle (2021), going 0–5 with a 7.04 ERA (48 ER, 61.1 IP) with 71 hits allowed, 26 walks and 45 strikeouts. Seattle originally selected him in the 18th round of the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Texas Tech University. The Mariners claimed him off waivers from Miami on Dec. 7, 2020.

Dunn, 25, is 1–2, with a 3.18 ERA (16 ER, 45.1 IP) in 9 starts with the Mariners this season. He has allowed 2 runs or less in his last 5 consecutive starts and in 7 of 9 starts overall. Justin has not allowed more than 3 earned runs in any start this season and has allowed 3 runs or fewer in 15 consecutive starts dating back to 2020. Opposing batters are hitting just .168 (27x161) off Dunn in 2021, tops among all AL starters.

Dunn made his Major League debut with Seattle on Sept. 12, 2019. In parts of 3 season in the Majors, he is a combined 5–3 with a 3.69 ERA (40 ER, 97.2 IP). He was selected by the New York Mets with the 19th overall pick in the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of Boston College. Dunn was traded to Seattle as part of a seven-player deal on Dec. 3, 2018, along with Jarred Kelenic and four other players in exchange for Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz.
