BALTIMORE, Md. — Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves:

  • Erik Swanson, RHP, recalled from Alternate Training Site.
  • Anthony Misiewicz, LHP, placed on Injured List.

Swanson (#50) will be in uniform and available for tonight’s (4:05 pm PT) game at the Baltimore Orioles.

Swanson, 27, began the 2021 season at the Mariners Alternate Training Site and was travelling with the team on the first road trip as part of the five-person taxi squad. He was 1–0 with a 2.84 ERA (2 ER, 6.1 IP) in 7 Cactus League games this spring with 0 walks and 5 strikeouts.

Swanson was limited to 9 games in 2020 and posted an 0–2 record with a 12.19 ERA (11 ER, 7.2 IP). He struck out 9 in his 7.2 innings pitched. Swanson was on the 10-day injured list Aug. 20-Sept. 14 with a strained right forearm.

He made his MLB debut in 2019 with Seattle, appearing in 27 games (8 starts). In 18 relief appearances after the All-Star Break, he was 2-for-2 in save opportunities while posting a 2.78 ERA (7 ER, 22.2 IP) with 23 strikeouts and just 5 walks.

Swanson was originally selected by Texas in the 8th round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of Iowa Western Community College. On Aug. 1, 2016, he was acquired by New York-AL from Texas, along with Dillon Tate (rhp) and Nick Green (rhp), in exchange for Carlos Beltrán (of). After two-and-a-half seasons in the Yankees organization, he was acquired by the Mariners, along with Justus Sheffield (lhp) and Dom Thompson-Williams (cf), in exchange for James Paxton (lhp) on Nov. 19, 2018.

Misiewicz, 26, is 1–0, 0.00 in 4 games this season. He earned his first Major League win on Opening Night (April 1) working a shutout inning. He made his MLB debut with Seattle in 2020, making his first Opening Day roster and going on to appear in 21 games. Overall, he was 0–2, 4.05 ERA (9 ER, 20.0 IP) and striking out 25 while walking only 6. His 11.25 K/9.0 IP ration was the 8th-best mark in the AL among rookie pitchers.

Misiewicz was originally selected by Seattle in the 18th round of the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Michigan State University. He played five seasons in the Mariners minor league system before debuting last year.
