Games of Aug. 14, 2022

TRIPLE-A — TACOMA RAINIERS

RECAP: 2B Drew Ellis (2), 1B Evan White and C Josh Morgan combined to hit 4 home runs as Tacoma defeated Las Vegas 9–1 on Sunday afternoon. Ellis (2x4, 2 R, HR, RBI), Morgan (2x4, R, HR, RBI) and 3B Jonathan Villar (2x5, R, 2B) each recorded multi-hit games, while White (1x4, R, HR, 2 RBI), DH Jarred Kelenic (1x4, 2B, RBI), SS Erick Mejia (1x4, R), RH Marcus Wilson (1x3, R, 2B) and LF Derek Hill (1x1, 2 R, 2B, RBI, 3 BB) each collected 1 of the team’s 11 hits. Ellis recorded his 4th career multi-home run game with a 2-run blast with 1 out in the 4th inning and a solo homer with 1 out in the 6th inning. Starter Konner Wade (6.0,6,1,1,0,6,HR) improved to 4–4 on the season with the win, allowing only 1 run on 6 hits while walking 0 and striking out 6 over 6.0 innings. RH Patrick Weigel (1.0,0,0,0,1,0), LH Fernando Abad (1.0,0,0,0,0) and LH Nick Ramirez (1.0,1,0,0,0,3) combined to hold Las Vegas scoreless over the final 3.0 scoreless innings to secure the win.

OF NOTE:

· Since July 1, OF Forrest Wall is batting .302 (29x96) with 22 runs scored, 6 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs, 14 RBI, 2 HBP, 3 walks and 11 stolen bases in 29 games.

REHAB ASSIGNMENT: LH Matt Boyd began a rehab assignment with Tacoma on Aug. 13. In his first appearance on Aug. 13 vs. Las Vegas-G1, struck out 2 in a 1–2–3 9th inning. Boyd was a acquired along with catcher Curt Casali from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for minor leaguers Michael Stryffeler (rhp) and Andy Thomas © on Aug. 2. He has not pitched this season after undergoing forearm flexor tendon surgery and was placed on the 60-day Injured List (left elbow strain) on March 27 (originally by SF). He is is 37–62 with a 4.96 ERA (432 ER, 784.1 IP) with 248 walks and 759 strikeouts in 149 career games (145 starts) across 7 Major League seasons with Toronto (2015) and Detroit (2015–21).

REHAB ASSIGNMENT: 1B Evan White began a rehab assignment with Tacoma on Aug. 9. In 5 games with Tacoma, he is batting .214 (3x14) with 2 runs scored, 2 home runs, 4 RBI and 1 walk. This is his 3rd rehab stint with Tacoma this season (5/18–31), (6/14) and (8/9-c). He hit .111 (3x27) with 2 runs scored, 1 RBI and 5 walks over 9 game in his 1st 2 rehab stints. White was originally placed on the 10-day Injured List with a sports hernia on April 6. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on May 18. He last appeared in a game with Seattle on May 13, 2021.

DOUBLE-A — ARKANSAS TRAVELERS

RECAP: Starter Emerson Hancock and 2 relievers combined on a 5-hit shutout as Arkansas defeated NW Arkansas 5–0 on Sunday afternoon. The win was the Travelers 4th straight moving them back to .500 overall this season. Hancock (7.0,2,0,0,1,5) improved to 5–3 on the season with the win, allowing only 2 hits while walking 1 and striking out 5 over 7.0 scoreless innings. LH Ben Onyshko (1.0,1,0,0,0,1) and RH Devin Sweet (1.0,2,0,0,0,3) combined to allow 3 hits while walking 0 and striking out 4 over 2.0 scoreless innings in relief. C Jake Anchia (3x4, R, RBI) and 1B Jake Scheiner (2x3, R, HR, 2 RBI, BB) each recorded multi-hit games for the Travs, while 3B Riley Unroe (1x4, RBI, BB), CF Cade Marlowe (1x4, 3B), DH Matt Scheffler (1x4, R), 2B Patrick Frick (1x4, R) and SS Cesar Izturis Jr. (1x4, R) each collected 1 of the team’s 10 hits. Scheiner hit his 14th home run of the season with a solo blast with 2 outs in the 7th inning.

OF NOTE:

· INF Jake Scheiner has hit safely in 15 of his last 16 games (7/27-c), including 13 straight games (7/27–8/11)…during this 16-game stretch he is batting .403 (25x62) with 10 runs scored, 5 doubles, 4 home runs, 19 RBI and 9 walks.

· OF Cade Marlowe has reached base safely in 17 of his last 19 games (7/17-c), batting .314 (22x70) with 8 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 8 RBI, 5 HBP, 9 walks and 7 stolen bases…has hit safely in 32 of his last 43 games (6/17-c), batting .311 (51x164) with 28 runs scored, 7 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs, 36 RBI, 7 HBP, 20 walks and 19 stolen bases.

· INF Riley Unroe has reached base safely in 11 straight games (8/3-c), batting .405 (15x37) with 13 runs scored, 4 doubles, 2 triples, 9 RBI, 1 HBP, 11 walks and 4 stolen base.

· In 3 games after returning from the IL (8/11-c), INF Joe Rizzo is batting .500 (6x12) with 4 runs scored, 2 doubles, 3 RBI, 1 HBP and 2 walks.

· RH Taylor Dollard is 11–2 with a 1.86 ERA (23 ER, 111.1) over 21 starts this season…he has limited opponents to a .194 (78x403) while walking 25 and striking out 101…his 1.86 ERA is the 3rd-lowest in the Minor Leagues this season (among full season teams)…he has allowed 1 earned run or less in a 15 of his 21 starts, including 6 quality starts.

· RHP Taylor Dollard won 7 consecutive starts (5/31–7/4), going 7–0 with a 1.71 ERA (8 ER, 42.0 IP)…during this stretch he has limited opponents to a .190 (29x153) average, while walking 9 and striking out 38.

· In his first 4 Double-A starts (7/27-c), RH Bryce Miller is 1–0 with a 4.12 ERA (9 ER, 19.2 IP)…he has limited opponents to a .260 (19x73) average, while walking 7 and striking out 23.

· In 15 starts with Arkansas, RH Emerson Hancock is 5–3 with a 2.19 ERA (17 ER, 70.0 IP)…he has limited opponents to a .194 (50x258) with 21 walks and 64 strikeouts…set career-highs in innings pitched (7.0) and strikeouts (9) on July 28 at Tulsa (7.0,4,3,3,1,9,HR)…he also tied his career-high in innings pitched on Aug. 14 vs. NW Arkansas (7.0,2,0,0,1,5).

TEXAS LEAUGE PITCHER OF THE WEEK: RHP Prelander Berroa was named Texas League Pitcher of the Week, Aug. 8–14. Berroa and 4 Travs relievers combined on a 9-inning no-hitter as Arkansas defeated NW Arkansas 6–0 on Aug. 13. It marked the 2nd no-hitter by the Travelers this season. Berroa (5.0,0,0,0,2,11) earned his 1st career AA win, allowing only 2 walks and striking out a career-high 11 batters over 5.0 scoreless innings.

TEXAS LEAUGE PITCHER OF THE MONTH: RHP Emerson Hancock was named Texas League Pitcher of the Month for July by Minor League Baseball. He went 1–1 with a 1.54 ERA in 4 starts as he allowed just 4 earned runs on 17 hits and 8 walks over 23.1 innings. He struck out 23 and held opponents to a .207 average. Hancock, 23, was selected by Seattle in the first round (6th overall) of the 2020 MLB Draft out of the University of Georgia.

HIGH-A — EVERETT AQUASOX

RECAP: The AquaSox rallied for 3 runs in the top of the 9th inning, but it wasn’t enough as Everett fell to Tri-City 12–3 on Sunday evening. 3B Cole Barr (2x4, R) led the AquaSox with 2 hits, while CF Victor Labrada (1x4, R, BB), RF Alberto Rodriguez (1x5, R, 2B, RBI), C Charlie Welch (1x4, 2B, 2 RBI, BB), 1B Dariel Gomez (1x4, 2B) and 2B Justin Lavey (1x3, 2B, BB) each collected 1 of the team’s 7 hits. Starter Logan Rinehart (4.2,8,7,5,2,6,HR) fell to 0–2 on the season with the loss, allowing 7 runs (5 ER) on 8 hits while walking 2 and striking out 6 over 4.2 innings. RH Mike Mokma (0.1.0,0,0,0,0) and RH Bernie Martinez (1.0,0,0,0,0,1) each had a scoreless outing, while RH Michael Flynn (1.0,3,3,3,1,0) and RH Matt Willrodt (1.0,1,2,2,1,2) combined to allow 5 runs over the 7th and 8th innings.

· OF Alberto Rodriguez has hit safely in 20 of his last 25 games (7/14-c), including 12 multi-hit contests, batting .330 (33x100) with 14 runs scored, 5 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, 8 RBI, 1 HBP, 12 walks and 1 stolen base…dating back to June 22, he has hit safely in 32 of 42 games, batting .302 (51x169) with 22 runs scored, 12 doubles, 2 triples, 4 home runs, 21 RBI, 1 HBP, 17 walks and 3 stolen bases.

RECAP: The Nuts recorded 15 hits, but it wasn’t as Modesto fell to Visalia 14–8 on Sunday night. CF Jonatan Clase (3x5, 2 R, 2 2B, SB), C Freuddy Batista (3x5, R, 2B, RBI), SS Axel Sanchez (2x4, 2 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, BB), 1B Hogan Windish (2x5, R, 2 2B, RBI) and 2B Brett Rodriguez (2x4, R, 2B, RBI, SF, SB) each recorded at least 2 of the team’s 15 hits. Sanchez hit his 5th home run of the season with a 2-run blast with 0 out in the 4th inning. Starter Sam Carlson (4.0,4,7,6,4,2,HR) fell to 3–2 on the season with the loss, allowing 7 runs (6 ER) on 4 hits while walking 4 and striking out 2 over 4.0 innings. RH Chris Jefferson (2.0,1,0,0,0,3), LH Raul Alcantara (1.0,2,1,1,1,1), RH Natanael Garabitos (1.0,3,2,2,0,2), RH Jose Geraldo (0.2,3,4,4,2,1) and RH Amador Arias (0.1,0,0,0,0,1) combined to allow 7 runs over 5.0 innings in relief.
