Mariners Claim LHP Sammy Peralta off Waivers from Chicago White Sox
Peralta will report to Triple-A Tacoma
SEATTLE, Wash. — Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced today the following roster moves:
- Sammy Peralta, LHP, claimed off waivers from the Chicago White Sox.
The Mariners Major League, 40-man roster is now at 39 players.
Peralta, 25, will report to Triple-A Tacoma. He has yet to appear in a game this season. He pitched in 3 Spring Training games with the White Sox, going 0–1 with a 5.40 ERA (3.1 IP, 2 ER), 1 walk, 2 strikeouts and 1 home run allowed. The Queens, New York native was designated for assignment by the White Sox on March 28.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound left-hander made his Major League debut last season, pitching in 20 games for the White So and going 2–0 with a 4.05 ERA (9 ER, 20.0 IP), 11 walks and 18 strikeouts. He earned his first career win on Aug. 6 at Cleveland.
Peralta has also appeared in parts of 4 minor league seasons in the White Sox organization, going 14–12 with 10 saves, a 3.96 ERA (98 ER, 223.0 IP), 67 walks, 270 strikeouts and a 1.220 WHIP in 112 games (9 starts).
