SEATTLE, Wash. — Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves:

· Nick Margevicius, LHP, claimed off waivers from San Diego.

· Reggie McClain, RHP, designated for assignment.

Seattle’s Major League, 40-man, roster remains full at 40 players. Seattle has 7 days to trade, release or outright the contract of McClain to the minor leagues.

Margevicius (mahr-GAV-a-chiss), 23, was designated for assignment by San Diego on January 17. He started the season with San Diego and made his Major League debut March 30 vs. San Francisco, throwing 5.0 innings and allowing 1 run on 3 hits with 5 strikeouts. He went 2–6 with the Padres in 2019 with a 6.79 ERA (43 ER, 57.0 IP), 42 strikeouts and 19 walks over 17 games (12 starts). Upon being named to the Padres Opening Day roster, he had never pitched above High-A.

Margevicius was originally selected by the Padres in the 7th round of the 2017 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Rider (NJ) University. He has amassed an 18–13 record with a 3.36 ERA (94 ER, 252.0 IP), 261 strikeouts and 38 walks over 46 games (44 starts) in the minor leagues.

McClain, 27, made 14 appearances with the Mariners after making his Major League debut on Aug. 2 at Houston. He went 1–1 with a 6.00 ERA (14 ER, 21.0 IP) in 14 games, 2 starts, while limiting opponents to a .268 (22x82) average with 13 walks and 11 strikeouts with Seattle in 2019. He recorded his first Major League win in his final appearance of the season on Sept. 29 vs. Oakland, allowing 2 hits and striking out 1 over 2.0 shutout innings. McClain combined to appear in 29 games with High-A Modesto, Double-A Arkansas and Triple-A Tacoma over the first half of the 2019 season, going 3–4 with 2 saves and a 2.23 ERA (18 ER, 72.2 IP). He held opponents to a .174 (44x253) average, while walking 22 and striking out 72.

McClain was originally selected by the Mariners in the 13th round of the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft from the University of Missouri. He began his professional career working primarily as a starter over his first 3 seasons before switching to a bullpen role in 2019. In 2017, he was named a Mid-Season California League All-Star while with High-A Modesto. He spent 4 minor league seasons in the Mariners organization, posting a record of 24–27 with a 4.35 ERA (197 ER, 407.1 IP) with 90 walks and 362 strikeouts in 93 career games, 60 starts.
