SEATTLE, Wash. — Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves:

  • Jacob Nottingham, C, claimed off waivers from Milwaukee.
  • Jose Godoy, C, selected from Triple-A Tacoma.
  • Luis Torrens, C, optioned to Triple-A Tacoma.
  • Brady Lail, RHP, designated for assignment.
  • José Marmolejos, INF, designated for assignment.

The Mariners active roster currently features 25 players.

Seattle’s Major League, 40-man, roster remains full at 40 players.

Nottingham, 26, will be in his second stint with the Mariners this season. He was previously claimed off waivers from Milwaukee on April 28 earlier this season, but did not appear in a game before being traded back to the Brewers on May 2 in exchange for cash considerations. Overall, he has appeared in 5 games with Milwaukee this season, batting .214 (3x14) with 2 runs, 1 double, 3 home runs and 4 RBI.

Nottingham was originally selected by the Astros in the 6th round of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Redlands High School (CA). He made his Major League debut with Milwaukee on April 16, 2018 vs. Cincinnati. Overall, he appeared in 43 Major League games with Milwaukee in 4 seasons (2018–21), batting .205 (18x88) with 13 runs, 3 doubles, 7 home runs, 21 RBI, and 9 walks.

Godoy, 26, will make his Major League debut with his first appearance with the Mariners. He is batting .310 (9x29) with 6 runs scored, 2 home runs, 6 RBI and 2 walks in 7 games with Triple-A Tacoma this season. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound catcher signed a minor league contract with the Mariners on Nov. 20, 2020 and received an invite to Major League spring training in 2021. In 12 games this spring, he went 2-for-13 with 1 run, 1 double, 2 RBI, and 2 walks.

Godoy originally signed as an international free agent with St. Louis on July 2, 2011. He has appeared in parts of 9 minor league seasons in the Cardinals (2012–19) and Mariners (2021) organizations, batting .275 (420x1527) with 179 runs, 72 doubles, 3 triples, 17 home runs, 202 RBI, 178 walks and 4 stolen bases in 468 career minor league games.

Torrens, 25, is batting .178 (16x90) with 7 runs, 5 doubles, 2 home runs, 6 RBI and 4 walks in 29 games with the Mariners this season. He was acquired by Seattle from San Diego on Aug. 31, 2020 along with Ty France (inf), Andres Munoz (rhp) and Taylor Trammell (of) in exchange for Austin Nola ©, Austin Adams (rhp) and Dan Altavilla (rhp).

Torrens originally signed as an international free agent with the New York Yankees on July 2, 2012. He made his Major League debut with San Diego on April 3, 2017 at Los Angeles-NL. Overall, the 6-foot, 208-pound, catcher has appeared in parts of 4 Major League seasons with San Diego (2017–20) and Seattle (2020–21), batting .192 (57x297) with 21 runs, 14 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs, 19 RBI and 25 walks in 117 career games.

Lail, 27, has appeared in 2 games with the Mariners, tossing 2.0 innings and allowing 3 runs with 1 strikeout. He pitched in 4 games with Triple-A Tacoma this season, posting a 1.50 ERA (1 ER, 6.0 IP) with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts.

Lail was originally selected by the Yankees in the 18th round of the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Bingham (UT) High School. He made his Major League debut with New York-AL on Aug. 12, 2019 vs. Baltimore. Overall, he has appeared in parts of 3 Major League seasons with New York-AL (2019), Chicago-AL (2020) and Seattle (2020–21), going 0–0 with a 6.00 ERA (14 ER, 21.0 IP) with 8 walks and 15 strikeouts in 11 career games.

Marmolejos, 28, is batting .139 (11x79) with 8 runs, 2 doubles, 3 home runs, 9 RBI, and 14 walks in 31 games with the Mariners this season.

Marmolejos originally signed with the Washington Nationals as an amateur free agent on June 9, 2011. He made his Major League debut with the Mariners on July 24, 2020 at Houston. Overall, the 6-foot-2, 239-pound infielder/outfielder has appeared in parts of 2 Major League seasons with the Mariners (2020–21), batting .177 (33x186) with 20 runs, 6 doubles, 9 home runs, 27 RBI and 21 walks in 66 career games.
