ARLINGTON, Texas — Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that LHP Tyler Anderson has reported to the club and been added to the active roster. To make room, RHP Ryan Weber was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma (post-game July 28).

Anderson, 31, will wear #31. He was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 27 in exchange for minor league catcher Carter Bins and minor league right-handed pitcher Joaquin Tejada.

Anderson has made 18 starts for the Pirates this season, going 5–8 with a 4.35 ERA (50 ER, 103.1 IP) with 25 walks and 86 strikeouts. The left-hander led Pittsburgh in wins (5) and innings pitched (103.1) this season.

He has pitched in parts of 6 Major League seasons with Colorado (2016–19), San Francisco (2020) and Pittsburgh (2021), going 27–35 with a 4.60 ERA while walking 174 and striking out 494 in 104 career games (100 starts). The 6-foot-2, 220-pound lefty made his Major League debut with Colorado on June 12, 2016 vs. San Diego, tossing 6.1 innings and allowing just one run with no walks and 6 strikeouts. He threw his first career complete game (9.0 IP) on Aug. 22, 2020 with San Francisco vs. Arizona.

The Nevada native attended Spring Valley High School in Las Vegas and the University of Oregon. In his 2011 season with the Ducks, he went 8–3 with a 2.34 ERA (28 ER, 107.2 IP) with 114 strikeouts in 15 starts. Anderson was selected by the Rockies in the 1st round (20th overall) of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft. He was claimed off waivers by San Francisco from Colorado on Oct. 30, 2019. He signed a one-year, Major League contract with Pittsburgh on Feb. 17, 2021.

Weber, 30, made 2 appearances for Seattle after he was recalled on July 25. He allowed 2 earned runs in 3.0 innings of work, making his second career stint with the Mariners after making a start for them on May 13, 2017. He became the 48th Mariners player to appear in 2 stints with the team.

He was claimed off waivers by the Mariners on July 16 from Milwaukee after being designated for assignment on July 13. He made 1 start with Triple-A Tacoma this season, tossing 4.1 innings and allowing 1 run on 1 walk with 5 strikeouts. The right-hander has appeared in 63 career Major League games (16 starts), going 4–12 with a 5.28 ERA (98 ER, 167.0 IP) with 39 walks and 107 strikeouts.

The St. Petersburg, Florida native was selected by Atlanta in the 22nd round of the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of St. Petersburg College. He has appeared in parts of 7 Major League seasons with Atlanta (2015–16), Seattle (2017, 2021), Tampa Bay (2018), Boston (2019–21) and Milwaukee (2021).
