SEATTLE, Wash. — Seattle Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that the Mariners have acquired right-handed pitcher Prelander Berroa from San Francisco in exchange for infielder Donovan Walton.

Seattle’s Major League, 40-man, roster is now at 39 players.

Berroa, 22, has made 4 starts with High-A Eugene in the San Francisco Giants organization this season, posting a 0.68 ERA (1 ER, 13.1 IP) with 6 walks and 16 strikeouts. In 55 career minor league games (50 starts), he is 12–8 with a 3.93 ERA (97 ER, 222.0 IP) with 114 walks and 263 strikeouts.

Berroa originally signed with Minnesota as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic on July 2, 2016. He was traded by Minnesota, along with minor leaguers Jaylin Davis (of) and Kai-Wei Teng (rhp), in exchange for RHP Sam Dyson on July 31, 2019.

Walton, 27, appeared in 1 game with the Mariners this season, pinch running and scoring on April 23 vs. Kansas City. In 2021, he appeared in 24 games with Seattle, batting .206 (13x63) with 6 runs, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 7 RBI, 1 stolen base and 4 walks.

The left-handed batting, right-handed throwing infielder has appeared in 37 career games with Seattle, batting .196 (18x92) with 9 runs, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 12 RBI, 1 stolen base and 8 walks. He made his Major League debut on Sept. 10, 2019 vs. Cincinnati.

Walton was selected by the Mariners in the 5th round of the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Oklahoma State University. In 438 career minor league games in the Mariners organization, he is batting .288 (481x1671) with 271 runs, 96 doubles, 12 triples, 38 home runs, 208 RBI, 38 stolen bases and 205 walks.
