SEATTLE, Wash. — Seattle Mariners Director of Amateur Scouting Scott Hunter announced today that the club selected

20 players in the 2021 Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft, highlighted by their first pick, catcher Harry Ford, who was the 12th overall selection in the draft.

The Mariners selected 10 pitchers, 3 catchers, 4 infielders (3 SS, 1 3B), and 3 outfielders. Seattle selected 17 college players and 3 high school players.

The Mariners drafted 3 catchers, 4 infielders (3 SS, 1 3B), and 3 outfielders. Catcher Harry Ford from North Cobb (GA) High School was the Mariners first position player selected in the 1st round (12th overall). Six of the Mariners first 9 picks were position players. Of the 10 position players selected, 5 are right-handed hitters, 4 are left-handed hitters and 1 switch hitter.

Seattle selected 10 pitchers in the draft; 9 right-handed pitchers and 0 left-handed pitchers. Right-handed pitcher Michael Morales (3rd round/109th overall) from East Pennsboro (PA) High School was the first high school pitcher selected by the Mariners, while right-handed pitcher Bryce Miller (4th round/113th overall) from Texas A&M was the first college pitcher drafted by Seattle. In all, 9 of the 10 pitchers selected by Seattle were college pitchers.

The Mariners selected 17 college players in the draft, including each of their final 17 picks. At 17-year-old, SS Edwin Arroyo out Central Pointe Christian Academy was the youngest player selected by the Mariners in the draft.

In all Seattle selected players with hometowns from 12 states and 1 territory: Alabama, Arizona, California (4), Florida, Georgia (4), Indiana, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania (2), South Carolina, Texas and Puerto Rico.

The Mariners selected 9 players (rounds 2–10) on Monday afternoon. The Mariners also made one selections during the first day of the draft: catcher Harry Ford (1st round/12th overall) out of North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, GA. The 5-foot-10, 200-pound catcher/outfielder is rated as the #13 overall draft prospect, the #9 position player and the #5 high school position player by MLB.com. Ford, 18, hit .343 (96x280) with 83 runs scored, 20 doubles, 7 triples, 7 home runs, 57 RBI, 76 walks, 40 strikeouts and 32 stolen bases in 104 games over 4 seasons with North Cobb High School. He got on-base at a .510 clip, slugging .539 with a 1.049 OPS in his high school career with the Warriors. He reached base safely in 30 of 33 games in his senior season.
