CHICAGO, Ill. — Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodríguez has been named American League Player of the Week for August 14–20.

Rodríguez, 22, batted .568 (21x37) with 7 runs, 4 doubles, 2 home runs, 12 RBI and 6 stolen bases during the week, getting on base at a .579 clip, slugging .838 with a 1.417 OPS. The center fielder hit safely in all 7 games, registering 5 multi-hit games and 4 consecutive games with at least 4 hits.

From Aug. 16–19, Julio hit .773 (17x22) with 5 runs, 2 doubles, 2 homers and 8 RBI with a 1.909 OPS. The 17 hits over a 4-game span set a Major League record (since 1901), surpassing Milt Stock (16 H) over a 4-game span for the Brooklyn Robins from June 30-July 3, 1925. He also tied Stock’s MLB record for most consecutive 4+ hit games (4) during that span.

In 121 games this season, Rodríguez is batting .278 (143x515) with 76 runs, 30 doubles, 1 triple, 21 homers, 79 RBI, 33 stolen bases and 38 walks, getting on base at a .336 clip, slugging .462 with a .798 OPS. The 2-time American League All-Star has appeared in 253 career games with Seattle (2022-c), batting .281 (288x1026) with 160 runs, 55 doubles, 4 triples, 49 homers, 154 RBI, 58 stolen bases and 78 walks with an .826 OPS.

Rodríguez is the only player in Mariners history to hit 20+ homers in each of his first 2 Major League seasons. He is one of just 2 players in MLB history with 20+ homers and 20+ stolen bases in each of his first 2 seasons, along with Bobby Witt Jr.-KC (also 2022–23).

If he homers over his next 15 games, he will become the fastest player to 50 career homers in Mariners history and would surpass Alex Rodriguez, who hit his 50th career Major League home run in his 269th career game.

This is the third time in his career that Rodríguez has been named AL Player of the Week. He also received the honor for the week of June 27-July 3, 2022 and May 22–28 this season.
