SAN DIEGO — The Mariners defeated the Padres by a 7–6 score in their final spring tune-up game before Opening Day at T-Mobile Park on Thursday, March 28 against the Boston Red Sox.

Julio Rodríguez finished off his spring with a bang, crushing a two-run homer down the left-field line in the bottom of the first that scored J.P. Crawford, who led off the game with a single. Dylan Moore followed suit in the second, homering to give the Mariners a 3–2 advantage after San Diego scored a pair in the first.

Right-hander Casey Lawrence started for the Mariners and gave them 5.0 innings of work, followed by Tyson Miller out of the bullpen. Collin Snider, Blas Castano, Austin Voth, Luis Curvelo and Peyton Alford also pitched, with Voth recording the win and Alford notching the save.

Going into the ninth inning, Seattle trailed 5–4. The Mariners put up three runs in the top of the ninth, including a game-tying RBI single off the bat of RJ Schreck, which was his second hit of the game. The Friars scored one in the ninth, with the Mariners holding on by a 7–6 advantage.

The Mariners return home to begin the 2024 regular season in two days — on Thursday, March 28 vs. the Boston Red Sox, the first of a season-opening seven-game homestand. Tickets remain for all seven games vs. Boston (March 28–31) and Cleveland (April 1–3). Every night of the Guardians series is a Value Game with tickets starting as low as $10, and each night is also a Julio Rodríguez “No Fly Zone” Bobblehead Night (first 10,000 fans).
