PEORIA, Ariz. — The Mariners fell by a score of 13–3 to the Padres this afternoon at Peoria Stadium. Seattle entered today’s game having won back-to-back games for the second time this spring.

San Diego scored first in the top of the second inning, but the Mariners answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the frame. Luis Urias picked up 3rd RBI of the spring with a single to center field, scoring Mitch Haniger from third on the play to knot the game at 1–1.

The Padres pulled in front with 3 runs in the third inning, followed by another run in the fourth to take a 5–1 advantage.

J.P. Crawford cut the Padres lead in half with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring Urías who began the inning with a leadoff double to center field. Crawford enters the 2024 season coming off a career-high 19 home runs during the 2023 campaign.

The Padres fought back with a 3-run shot by Eguy Rosario in the top of the sixth, extending the lead to 8–3. San Diego added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth, followed by three more in the ninth to make the score 13–3.

The Mariners continue Cactus League play tomorrow with a 1:05 pm PT first pitch against the Oakland Athletics at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, AZ. Right-hander Bryce Miller is schedule to make his third start of the spring for Seattle, with A’s expected to counter with left-hander Alex Wood.
