MIAMI, Fla. — Seattle Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that INF Mike Ford has been traded to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for cash considerations.

Ford, 29, was designated for assignment by Seattle on April 25 after he was selected from Triple-A Tacoma on April 19, but did not appear in a Major League game.

Ford was signed to a minor league contract by the Mariners on March 16. He appeared in 11 games with Triple-A Tacoma this season, batting .317 (13x41) with 10 runs, 1 double, 2 home runs, 5 RBI and 5 walks. He appeared in 13 Cactus League games with Seattle this spring, batting .217 (5x23) with 2 doubles, 1 home run, 3 RBI and 3 walks. He has appeared in 3 Major League seasons (2019–21) with the New York Yankees. In 101 career games, he is batting .199 (55x277) with 41 runs, 11 doubles, 17 home runs, 41 RBI and 35 walks.

Ford spent the 2021 season in 3 different organizations, appearing in 22 games with New York-AL, 7 with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (NYY), 40 with Triple-A Durham (TB) and 29 with Triple-A Rochester (WSH). He had a previous stint in the Mariners organization, appearing in 24 Cactus League games in 2018 after being claimed off waivers by Seattle from New York-AL on Dec. 14, 2017 before ultimately being returned to the Yankees on March 24, 2018. The left-handed hitting, right-handed throwing first baseman was originally signed by New York-AL as an undrafted free agent out of Princeton University (NJ) in 2013.
