R.A. Dickey wins Branch Rickey Award

Former Mariners pitcher R.A. Dickey, currently a National League Cy Young candidate with the New York Mets, has been named recipient of the 2012 Branch Rickey Award. The Award, created in 1991 by the Rotary Club of Denver, honors “individuals in baseball who contribute unselfishly to their communities and who are strong role models for young people.”

Congratulations to R.A. Dickey, one of baseball’s “good guys.”

Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey played one season with the Mariners in 2008.

Link of the Day

There are a lot of good stories out on the internet, and we’ll do our best to pass along fun and unusual stories that may have slipped through your RSS feeds. Today, we want to share with you a story about former Mariners knuckleballer R.A. Dickey and a tie-in to all-around good guy and former Mariners beat writer Kirby Arnold of the Everett Herald. R.A. and Kirby loved to talk about old cars, especially when Kirby drove his old Mustang into the parking lot in Peoria, AZ, and that friendship has come full circle via the knuckleball. We hope you enjoy this story on ESPN.com:
