MARINERS WIN AGAIN:

The Mariners (6-4) got a strong start from Hisashi Iwakuma and the offense chipped in with four, two-out runs as Seattle claimed a 5-4 in vs. San Francisco (5-6) in a Cactus League game in front of a sellout crowd of 11,708 fans at Scottsdale Stadium. The win was Seattle’s third consecutive.

Iwakuma (2-0) tossed 3.0 innings of 1-hit ball and did not allow a run, keeping his ERA at a perfect 0.00 this spring. Dann Roach (2.0 IP, 1 H, 3 SO), David Rollins (1.0 IP, 1 H) combined for 3.0 shutout innings protecting Seattle’s early lead. Joel Peralta tossed 2.0 IP, and was touched for a 2-run homer and Tony Zych (1.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER) battled through three hits, including a solo HR, in the ninth. Zych was credited with the save (#1).

Seattle led 1-0 after the first two batters of the game versus Jeff Samardzijia (0-1) as Ketel Marte led off the contest with a double, and Leonys Martin followed with an RBI single. Seattle added a pair of runs in the third inning as Kyle Seager (single), Franklin Gutierrez (RBI double) and Stefen Romero (RBI single) strung together back-to-back-to-back two-out hits to boost the Mariners lead to 3-0.

After the Giants had cut the lead to 3-2, Seattle tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the 8th inning, as a two-out bloop double by Chris Taylor plated Tyler Smith for the first run, and a pinch-hit single from Tyler O’Neill drove home Taylor.
