The Mariners late rally fell short in a 10-8 Cactus League loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Peoria Stadium in front of 6,214 fans.

After giving up two runs to Arizona in the first inning, the Mariners took a brief lead in the bottom half of the second frame as Boog Powell had a bases loaded single to right field that plated two runs and an additional run scored on an error by the right fielder.

The 3-2 lead was short lived as Arizona came back with two runs in the third inning, four runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth to open up a 10-3 lead. Seattle chipped away at the deficit with a Kyle Seager two-run home run in the fifth inning, an RBI triple by Daniel Robertson that scored Dario Pizzano in the sixth, and two runs in the eighth on a solo home run by Dae-Ho Lee to lead off the frame and a two-out RBI single by Tyler O’Neill, scoring Shawn O’Malley.

Trailing 10-8 heading to the ninth inning, Seattle got a leadoff single by Tyler Smith and a walk by Marcus Littlewood to bring the go-ahead run to the plate. Lee then grounded in to a double play to slow the threat before Arizona closed out the game without further damage.

Stefen Romero finished the game 2-for-3 with a run scored and is now hitting .625 (5×8) with 2 runs, 1 home run and 2 RBI.

LHP Charlie Furbush threw his second live-batting-practice session of the spring Monday. He threw approximately 25 pitches to minor league outfielders Braden Bishop and Austin Cousino and never allowed any hard contact and showed good velocity on his fastball and movement on slider.

“I felt most of them were there pretty good today,” Charlie said. “I got a few swings and misses. It’s just getting the stamina and getting up to 100 percent game ready. It should be coming in time, and hopefully sooner than later.”
