Mariners Spring Training Update – Day 6
Wednesday, February 24, 2016 / 40 Days ‘til Opening Day (April 4 at Texas Rangers)
Nelson Cruz: In His Own Words
Mariners outfielder/DH Nelson Cruz reported to camp in Peoria today and met with the media to discuss getting to know his new teammates, his relationship with Leonys Martin and more.
A Man Of The People
Nelson Cruz, Robinson Cano and many other Mariners position players weren’t the only ones to arrive in camp today. Many members of the media spent their first day in Spring Training today, including KOMO-TV’s Mike Ferreri and Paul Koehnke, KCPQ-TV’s Aaron Levine, The Seattle Times’ Matt Calkins and Bettina Hansen, The Seattle P-I’s Adam Lewis and former Everett Hearld reporter Kirby Arnold.
Scout Doesn’t Like To Share
Scout, the golden retriever from Redmond, Washington, has made a new friend in Mariners camp. Each day, Joel Peralta stops by to say “hi” and play with Scout. Today, Scout didn’t want to let go of his ball, not for Joel, not for anyone.
Alvin Davis on Good Morning Arizona
Mr. Mariner Alvin Davis took time this morning to chat with Good Morning Arizona. He touched on his college playing days at ASU and about the start of Mariners camp. He’s in his fourth season as an instructor with the Mariners.
Behind The Scenes of MarinersVision
Over the first two weeks of Spring Training, the Mariners marketing department is filming the videos that will appear on MarinersVision at Safeco Field, on Mariners.com and on social media throughout the season. Inside the visitor’s clubhouse of Peoria Stadium, a floor-to-ceiling green screen serves as a backdrop for each video. Today, the MarinersVision crew of Ben Mertens, Michael Ferguson, Olav Nossum and Chase Decker filmed video with 10 different Mariners. By the end of the this week, 45-to-50 players will have taken a turn in the front of the green screen.
Karns Throws A Bullpen
Right-hander Nathan Karns, who was acquired from Tampa Bay in a six-player trade, tossed a bullpen today. It was one of our first chances to see him pitch in a Mariners uniform and we’re looking forward to seeing much more as Spring Training progresses.
The Bear Meets The Media
Hisashi Iwakuma met with the media today with the help of his interpreter Antony Suzuki. Kuma typically has a larger group session at the start of the spring and then he’s available in smaller groups as the spring goes on.
