Refuse to Abuse® 5K
Some 1,500 runners and walker turned out at Safeco Field on Saturday, July 19, for the Fourth Annual Refuse to Abuse® 5K.
Pitcher James Paxton, who’s on the DL and not traveling with the team on the road, was there to greet participants and help get the event started.
KING TV’s Margaret Larson, host of New Day Northwest, was the honorary chair.
The event course sent participants all around inside and outside Safeco Field, ending with a partial lap around the warning track to the finish line near third base.
The event is a fundraiser for the Mariners longtime partner the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence prevention work, including development of tools to build skills and promote healthy relationships among teens and youth. In four years, the 5K has raised $330,000 for the Coalition.
