Mariners send two to Pitch, Hit & Run National Finals
Two competitors from then Mariners Pitch, Hit & Run Team Championship last week have qualified for the National Finals of MLB’s skills competition.
Ten year old Trevor Cogley, and 14 year old Haley Loffer, both from Hayden, in North Idaho, will travel to Cincinnati, host of the 2015 MLB All-Star Game. The competition will be on field at Great American Ball Park on Monday, July 13 prior to the Home Run Derby.
Haley, who competed in the 13-14 Year Old Girls division, went to the National Finals in 2013 when the competition was at Citi Field in New York. Haley, who will be a sophomore in high school next year, plays on an 18-and-under travel team called North Idaho Xtreme.
Trevor, who goes to Atlas Elementary, plays on the Hayden Little League All-Stars. His mom says he’s been “smiling from ear to ear” ever since he found out he made the finals.
Both Haley and Trevor were among the approximately 625,000 kids who participated in Pitch, Hit & Run competitions across North America. They advanced through four levels of competition and emerged as one of the three top performers in their age groups.
Pitch, Hit & Run is part of “PLAY BALL,” MLB’s initiative aimed at getting kids to participate in all kinds of baseball and softball activities.
