Mariners Mondays – A Sweep in the Bronx
Tonight on Mariners Mondays on ROOT SPORTS – a three-game sweep at Yankee Stadium that took a month to complete.
April 29, the Mariners made their first trip of the year to New York and Robinson Cano made his Yankee Stadium debut in Mariners blue.
Starter Chris Young gave up a second-inning homer to Mark Teixeira and scattered two more hits over 5 2/3 innings to get his first win since 2012. Mike Zunino had a career-high 4hits, leading the Mariners to a 6-3 win over the Yankees.
The next night’s game was rained out. In Game 3, Cano’s RBI double got the Mariners on the board in the 1st inning. He added a second RBI in the 3rd. Roenis Elias had an impressive outing, scattering six hits over 7.0 innings, and struck out 10 batters in the Mariners 4-2 win over the Yankees.
The game postponed from April 30 was played on June 2, a detour before a two-game set against the Braves in Atlanta. This time, the offensive star was Kyle Seager, who had four extra-base hits in the Mariners 10-2 rout over the Yankees. Felix got the win, his fifth straight.
