Mariners Mondays – Offensive Outburst
Tonight’s episode of Mariners Mondays on ROOT SPORTS looks back at three games with lots of offense.
June 23 at Safeco Field was a 9-2 romp over Boston (it always feels good to beat the Red Sox). Felix Hernandez pitched 7.0 strong innings for the win and Logan Morrison hit a pair of home runs, the first multi-homer game of his career. Also contributing offensively, especially in the six-run 4th inning were Robinson Cano, Kyle Seager, Mike Zunino and Dustin Ackley.
Next up, back-to-back games against the Astros where the Mariners scored a total of 23 runs. On June 30, Taijuan Walker had a shaky first few innings, but he settled in and with the help of four Mariners home runs (Zunino, Michael Saunders, Brad Miller, Cano), Walker got his first win of the season in the 10-4 victory over the Astros.
The next night was a similar story with the Mariners scoring again in double digits. Cano and Seager had three RBI each and James Jones added two for good measure, while Hisashi Iwakuma went 6.0 strong innings, in the 13-2 route of the Astros.
Mariners Mondays episodes air at 7 pm on ROOT SPORTS January through March leading up to the April 6th Opening Day game against the Los Angeles Angels at Safeco Field.
