Photo of the Day – Mariners Legends:
Former Mariners Alvin Davis, Mike Blowers and Dan Wilson stopped by the Baseball Information office to say hi before tonight’s game.
Kuma Throws…a Tennis Ball:
Right-handed pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma took another positive step in his rehab from an injured right middle finger. Iwakuma threw a tennis ball for 40-45 pitches from varying lengths, strengthening his grip on the baseball and improving his range of motion. Kuma said everything went great. The hope is for Kuma to throw a baseball in the next couple of days.
Pryor and Walker:
Manager Lloyd McClendon shared a bit of great information with the media this afternoon, announcing that Stephen Pryor and Taijuan Walker will throw in a minor league game tomorrow in Peoria.
Help Baby Hay Hay:
Mariners relief pitcher Stephen Pryor was handing out orange bracelets today to show support for his niece, Hayden Hudgens, who has diagnosed with Leukemia at just two years of age. Several of Stephen’s teammates have already stepped up to help donate. If you wish to help out Stephen and his family, there is a website to donate at YouCaring.com.
Several Mariners players were sporting some custom shirts in Mariners colors made by the OppoTaco clothing brand. Michael Saunders was sent a package of the shirts by former Mariners farmhand Hyung Cho, who is the founder of the clothing brand.
Seahawks to Take Part in Opening Day:
For the home opener April 8 vs. the Angels, the Mariners will salute the Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks, as Russell Wilson, Super Bowl MVP Malcolm Smith, Jermaine Kearse, K.J. Wright, Bobby Wagner and others will be on hand for a special presentation and the ceremonial first pitch.
Prieto Named Quality Control Coach:
Chris Prieto, who was scheduled to manage Single-A Clinton this season, has been promoted to Quality Control Coach. Prieto will serve as the liaison between the Mariners advance scouting staff, manager Lloyd McClendon and the big league coaches. Prieto will travel with the Major League team all season, but will not be permitted to be in uniform during the game. Prieto is in his second season in the Mariners system and was slated to manage Class A Clinton in the Midwest League this season prior to being promoted to the big league staff. He led the Pulaski Mariners to the Appalachian League Championship in 2013 with a league-best 41-27 record.
