The Net Drill
Robinson Cano introduced Justin Smoak to the net drill this morning, a drill that allows you to focus on having a strong compact swing as the bat makes its way through the zone. Cano has been using the drill for years which has allowed him to become one of the best players in baseball. The net is placed over the outside edge of the plate and Cano and Smoak take their swings off of soft toss from the coach.

Happy Birthday!
Mariners outfielder Dustin Ackley celebrated his 26th birthday today and just like everybody, he shares his special day with various celebrities including Johnny Cash, Erykah Badu, Michael Bolton, Jackie Gleason, Corinne Bailey Rae, Marshall Faulk and Steve Blake. You’ll see more about what he did on his birthday down below.

Sign Here, Here & Here
Every year, the Mariners community relations department comes down to spring training and has Mariners players sign autographs so that they can use them to help non-profit organizations searching for auction items. CR members Gina Hasson, Sean Grindley, Demetrius Grant and Korey Traynor set up the multi-purpose room and had all 68 players (plus coaches) sign items for these worthy causes. MTV: Off The Bat From The MLB Fan Cave
An MTV crew was at the Mariners complex today to shoot interviews with some players including Robinson Cano, Felix Hernandez, Lucas Luetge, Charlie Furbush, Brad Miller and Logan Morrison. Morrison gave one of the hosts a bit of a hitting lesson (which you’ll see in the picture below). “Off the Bat from the MLB Fan Cave” is a weekly, 30-minute series with a 30 episode order that will be hosted from the MLB Fan Cave in New York City. A show that goes beyond baseball, “Off the Bat” is where MLB players will share their love for pop culture and entertainment, while fans will gain behind-the-scenes access to the biggest stars in baseball. Additionally, famous fans of the game will be stopping by the MLB Fan Cave to chat with series hosts and interact with players.
