Mariners Mondays – Milestone Wins for King Felix
Mariners Mondays on ROOT SPORTS get started next week with a look back at two 2013 milestone wins for Mariners ace Felix Hernandez—an outstanding performance vs. Oakland on Opening Night, and his 100th career win against the Astros.
Last year’s season opener (at Oakland) on April 1, was another impressive performance for Felix, even by his high standards. He pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out eight, and retiring the first 10 batters in order. Franklin Gutierrez produced all the offense the Mariners needed with a two-run single in the 5th, giving the Mariners a 2-0 win over the A’s.
A couple of starts later, Felix was on the mound in Houston for what would be his 100th career win. Felix pitched six scoreless innings and the Mariners offense backed him up with three home runs for the 7-1 win over the Astros. On that night, April 22, 2013, Felix joined Jamie Moyer and Randy Johnson as the only pitchers to reach 100 wins with the Mariners.
The first Mariners Mondays episode airs tonight on ROOT SPORTS beginning at 7:30 pm, right after Mariners All Access, which goes behind the scenes with manager Lloyd McClendon.
Mariners Mondays episodes will air on ROOT SPORTS for 12 weeks during the offseason and Spring Training, building to the March 31 season opener against the Los Angeles Angels.
