Stand Up 2 Cancer With the Mariners

Baseball fans (and specifically Mariners fans in this instance) have the chance to bid on some unique items that are part of an online baseball auction to help Stand Up To Cancer.

Here is a an excerpt from an article by Mariners beat writer Greg Johns on MLB.com:

Each of the 30 teams in Major League Baseball have come up with items to auction, and the Mariners’ contribution includes opportunities to:

  • Be an honorary member of the Safeco Fields grounds crew during a game in May.
  • Help work the hand-operated scoreboard at Safeco during a game during the upcoming season.
  • Be part of the radio broadcast booth experience with Rick Rizzs and Aaron Goldsmith during a game at Safeco Field this season, along with tickets to that game.

The MLB.com Auction to benefit Stand Up To Cancer is taking place during baseball’s Winter Meetings this week. MLB has supported SUTC since 2008 as a founding sponsor.

Public relations representatives from all 30 clubs were inspired to act based on individual club members impacted by the disease, and they jointly organized the auction, which will be officially announced at a news conference on Monday in Lake Buena Vista, with MLB staff.

Bidding closes at 7 p.m PT Thursday, with 80 baseball-related experiences ranging from private pitching and batting lessons with players to lunches with general managers to team bus rides and meet-and-greets with Hall of Fame players.

Thank you to the Mariners and MLB for supporting cancer research. Might I suggest some sort of Mariners/MLB/Stand Up To Cancer merchandise, with some percentage of the sales going to Stand Up To Cancer? None of the auction items are really in my price range (broke sportswriter here) but I’d like to contribute in some way in honor of my father, who has terminal cancer and who has fostered my love of baseball my whole life. Just a suggestion.

That is a great idea we will discuss. Thanks for the comment!
