Mariners Tops in American League in Recycling
For the second consecutive season, the Seattle Mariners have been named the American League Recycling Champions by Major League Baseball. The Mariners bested all other A.L. teams and were just edged out by the San Francisco Giants, the National League Recycling Champs, or the coveted Green Glove Award as the top recycling in MLB.
In 2013, the Mariners recycling rate was 90.94%. We diverted 1,547 tons of waste from the landfill. The largest category was compostables, at 46%, or 782 tons. Food waste made up 33% of that total, and yard waste was 13%. We also recycled 297 tons of concrete and steel from last year’s offseason renovations to Edgar’s Cantina and relocation of the outfield walls.
