The Mariners have had some fun promotional items this season, including Beard Hat Night, T-shirt Tuesdays, and those ever-popular Kings Court shirts and K-cards. But one of our favorites this season has been the Dustin Ackley Gnomes, and the fans’ reaction to them.
The Gnomes were handed out on Saturday, July 13 to the first 20,000 fans who arrived at Safeco to see the Mariners take on the Los Angeles Angels. Featuring our favorite second baseman turned outfielder Dustin Ackley, fans posted pictures of their gnomes on different social media sites throughout the game.
Fans got creative when snapping photos, staging them in bags of popcorn, on beaches and in their gardens. After the game ended, the posts did not stop coming in as fans began using the hash tag, #DustinsGreatAdventure. These posts featured fans taking their gnomes away from the ballpark, to their homes and to different places in between. What resulted was a fun look into what fans were up to when they were not attending baseball games, and how they used social media to demonstrate their creativity and to interact with the club. It provided for some fun browsing through the hash tag!
Here are some of our favorites from the best fans in baseball:
What kind of promotions do the Mariners have in store for the rest of the season? Well some of the giveaways we are excited for are the Felix Hernandez Kids Cape being handed out on Sunday, Sept. 8 vs. the Tampa Bay Rays, and the Team Posters in honor of Fan Appreciation Night on Friday, Sept. 27 vs. the Oakland Athletics. We hope to see you there!
