Martinez Foundation Night at Safeco Field
On Thursday, June 6, when the New York Yankees come to Safeco Field, it will be Martinez Foundation Night at the ballpark. Fitting, since Edgar Martinez, for whom the Foundation is named, had some especially big games against the Bronx Bombers. (Does “The Double” ring any bells?)
The Martinez Foundation was formed by Edgar and Holli Martinez in 2008 to help prepare and support teachers of color. The Foundation provides scholarships, training, mentoring and other support services to help highly qualified teachers from diverse backgrounds succeed.
A portion of the proceeds from sales of tickets through a special online offer will support the Foundation’s efforts. There will also be a silent auction of sports memorabilia and unique experiences near Section 128 on the Main Concourse, with proceeds benefitting the Foundation. Bidding starts when the gates open to the public and concludes at the end of the sixth inning.
And, Edgar will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game.
