Mariners and MLB Honor Veterans on Memorial Day
The Mariners and Padres will wear specially designed caps and jerseys today that will help in fundraising and awareness initiatives for Welcome Back Veterans. All of MLB will join the National Moment of Remembrance, an initiative the league has participated in since 1997, where all games will stop for a moment of silence at 3:00 pm.
The Memorial Day effort is part of MLB’s ongoing recognition of veterans, active military, and military families…MLB has committed $23 million to Welcome Back Veterans (welcomebackveterans.org) since its inception in 2008. MLB will donate 100% of its net proceeds from sales of the caps and jerseys to Welcome Back Veterans as part of its contribution to the program.
The Mariners are 21-13 (.636) on Memorial Day, the best winning percentage on this holiday among all MLB teams (COL – .619/13-8, NYY – .576/91-67).
