Edgar and Holli Martinez raise funds for Hurricane Sandy relief
Edgar and Holli Martinez flew off to New York this week so that Holli could run in the New York City Marathon. Holli had been training for months with her running partner Leslie Wetherholt, who also happens to be Holli’s aunt. Edgar, the Mariners Hall of Famer (and best Designated Hitter in MLB history), would be cheering them on.
When the marathon was canceled Friday, they decided to do something to help with Hurricane Sandy relief—staging an “informal” marathon by running laps around Central Park. With it, they’d be raising money for New York Cares.
According to Holli Martinez, “We all have different reasons for running a marathon, but we chose New York because there is no other place on earth like this city. We are now running for the city, to support New York Cares in their efforts to provide resources to those affected by Hurricane Sandy.”
They are inviting anyone in New York who wants to join the “informal” marathon to meet at the corner of Columbus Circle and Central Park Drive at 8am (EST) on Sunday. For those who can’t join the run, here’s a link to donate to the effort.
Here’s the news release about the informal marathon, posted on The Martinez Foundation website.
