Brendan Ryan Finishes 2nd for Defensive Player of the Year

In voting conducted by a ESPN.com writers, statisticians and former players, Mariners shortstop Brendan Ryan finished second for the 2012 MLB Defensive Player of the Year.

Angels rookie center fielder Mike Trout edged out Ryan, who received six of our 10 first-place votes. Ryan received the other four firsts and finished second in the voting.

Heading into the last game of the season Ryan leads all Major League shortstops with 27 runs saved and a 15.5 UZR.

Last week Ryan was also chosen as the front-runner for the Fielding Bible Award.

Why is Brendan not playing today.

Brendan had a great season, and underwent minor surgery Thursday on his elbow, so he rested those last two games. What a great defensive season for him!
