Game Recap vs. Rockies: Recap | Box Score
The Mariners had plenty of offense but the defense struggled, making five errors en route to a 9-8 loss to the Colorado Rockies in Cactus League play in front of 6,790 at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. It was a back and forth game with 17 total runs, five half innings that featured multiple runs and six combined errors, five by the Mariners. Right fielder Carlos Peguero went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBI to up his spring batting average to .294. Shortstop Munenori Kawasaki recorded his third consecutive multi-hit game. Kyle Seager, Michael Saunders and Casper Wells each collected multi-hit games. Right-hander Erasmo Ramirez started for the Mariners, tossing three innings and allowing two first-inning runs. Right-hander Tom Wilhelmsen (1.0 IP, 3 R/1ER), George Sherrill (1.0 ShO IP), League (0.1 IP, 4 R/3ER) and Charlie Furbush (2.2 ShO IP) all pitched in the game.
Roster Move:
The Mariners optioned RHP Shawn Kelley to AAA Tacoma, leaving the Mariners roster at 27 players. The club must be at its regular season limit of 25 players by 2 p.m. PT on Wednesday.
Breaking Camp:
Personal luggage for Mariners players and front office staff went on the truck to Seattle today, as the Mariners will go directly from tomorrow’s game to the airport. The team flies to Oakland Wednesday night, and has a 3 PM workout on Thursday at Oakland Coliseum. The Mariners re-open the 2012 regular season on Friday night at Oakland; the first of two vs. the A’s before an off day on Easter Sunday. Seattle finished off the road trip with four games in Texas (Mon-Thu) and the home opener is Friday, April 13 vs. the A’s (7:10 p.m.)
