Mariners faithful get early wake-up call
Over 150 Mariners fans stayed up all night (or set their alarm clocks crazy early) to attend an invitation only viewing party at Safeco Field.
The atmosphere was festive for first pitch at 3:04am PDT. There was a little more cheering and chanting throughout the game than one might expect from a sleep deprived bunch. But a good time was had by all.
The fans were joined by reporters and videographers from ROOT SPORTS (including host for the morning’s activities Angie Mentink), KING, KIRO, KOMO (radio & TV), KCPQ, MLB.com, and Bill Swartz of 97.3KIRO FM fame.
And what’s better than a hot dog at 3am? How about sushi? A new sushi bar is opening at the Hit It Here Café and fans had the chance to sample some of the new offerings that will be available. Seattle sushi chef Hiroshi Egashira helped develop a new menu for the ballpark that includes such choices as Catcher’s Mitt (fried tofu skin stuffed with spicy tuna and avocado), Seattle Roll (California Roll topped with smoked salmon and cream cheese), Hot Corner Roll (spicy tuna topped with shrimp, crab, hot sauce and tobiko), and Sounder Roll (spicy tuna topped with more tuna and avocado).
