Can someone please explain what the difference is between being reassigned to minor league camp and being optioned to the minors? Thank you.
Players that are on the 40-man roster have to be optioned down to the minors. the players that are in camp as non-roster invites are already on a minor league contract, so they are just re-assigned (or moved) to the minor league camp. If a player on a non-roster invite makes the team, they must be “selected” or have their contact “purchased” to the 40-man roster. This site has a lot of good explanations of the various baseball rules (which can get confusing).

I think I saw Brandon League wandering around Camelback Ranch Stadium as a “normal” person. LOL
