Mariners Spring Training Update – Day 26

Day 26 / Thursday, March 8, 2012 / 20 Days ‘til Opening Night in Tokyo (March 28 vs. Oakland) / 36 Days ‘til Opening Night in Seattle (April 13 vs. Oakland)

Weather:
The cooler weather seems to have passed, and temperatures were again in the low 70’s today. First pitch in Scottsdale for the B game at 10 a.m. was 62° and for the Cactus League game in Mesa was 65°. The high for the day in the Peoria area was 71°.

Mariners Remain Hot With 5th Straight Win:
Dustin Ackley
hit a tie-breaking three-run home run and starting pitcher Kevin Millwood allowed one run in 3.0 innings to send the Mariners to their fifth consecutive Cactus League victory in a 10-3 win over the Cubs at Hohokam Stadium. The Mariners improved to 6-1 in spring training play with their fifth consecutive win. The Mariners trailed 1-0 after four innings, but posted a four-run 5th inning. Shortstop Munenori Kawasaki singled to drive in catcher Miguel Olivo to tie the game at 1-1, and Ackley followed with a 3-run homer to right field (on the 10th pitch of the at-bat) to give Seattle a 4-1 cushion. Backup catcher Guillermo Quiroz added a two-run home run and third baseman Alex Liddi drove in a pair with a double.

Starting pitcher Kevin Millwood allowed 1 run in 3.0 innings today vs. the Cubs.

Mariners Also Victorious in B Game:
The Mariners also played, a won, a B Game today, defeating the Colorado Rockies 7-3. Highlights included starting pitcher Hector Noesi allowing 1 run on 2 hits in 3.0 innings pitched, and reliever Oliver Perez notching the win with 2.0 innings of relief. RHP Steve Delabar struck out all three batters he faced. Trayvon Robinson collected 3 RBI, including a 2-run homer, and Jesus Sucre was 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI. John Jaso also was 2-for-3.

Busy Days Ahead:
The Mariners have a couple of busy days ahead, scheduled to play four games over the next three days. Seattle hosts the Arizona Diamondbacks tomorrow afternoon in Peoria (1:05 p.m.), and be split on Saturday for a pair of games vs. the Dodgers (1:05 p.m. in Peoria) and Diamondbacks (7:10 p.m. in Scottsdale). The Mariners will travel to Scottsdale on Sunday to face the Giants.

Keep it up Mariner’s will be down to watch some games next week, can’t wait!

I am SO tickled to watch these kids this spring! I can’t wait to see how they are treated in Japan, and even more so, can’t wait till they open at Safeco. I have such HIGH hopes this year, They just seem so different this spring–so ON. I am a believer!
