Mariners Spring Training Update – Day 25

Weather:
The team worked out in the morning with pretty mild temperatures. Yesterday’s wind and dust storm apparently also brought in cooler temperatures, with temperatures in the low 50’s. The temperature in Tempe for the first pitch was 57° and cloudy.

Mariners Win Fourth Straight:
Starting pitcher Blake Beavan tossed 4.0 shutout innings and Vinnie Catricala hit a two-run home run to send the Mariners to their fourth consecutive Cactus League victory with a 6-4 win over the Angels Wednesday at Tempe Diablo Stadium. Beavan allowed 2 hits and struck out 3 in 4.0 scoreless innings, at one point retiring 10 batters in a row from the first through fourth innings. Reliever Charlie Furbush earned the win firing 2.0 shutout innings. After six scoreless innings, the Mariners took the lead with a four-run 7th inning. Stefen Romero and Darren Ford tabbed run-scoring singles, and Johermyn Chavez had a sacrifice fly. Catricala added a two-run home run in the top of the 8th inning.
Busy Days Ahead:
The Mariners have a couple of busy days ahead, scheduled to play five games over the next three days. There is a pair of games tomorrow, starting with a B game in the morning against Colorado at 10 a.m. in Scottsdale (Rockies complex at Salt River Fields). The Mariners will also face the Cubs at 1:05 p.m. in Mesa at HoHoKam Stadium. Seattle hosts Arizona on Friday afternoon in Peoria (1:05 p.m.) and be split on Saturday for a pair of games vs. the Dodgers (1:05 p.m. in Peoria) and Diamondbacks (7:10 p.m. in Scottsdale).
Dan the Man:
Former Mariners catcher and soon-to-be Mariners Hall of Famer Dan Wilson arrived in camp today as a guest instructor. He rode over to Tempe with members of the PR staff and told great stories about his days at the University of Minnesota and looks forward to working with the 2012 Mariners.
