Mariners Spring Training Update – Day 23

It was very overcast today, and a bit humid, but temperatures are starting to heat up. The game vs. the Padres started at 76° and a high reached 84° in the middle innings.

Mariners Improve to 3-1 in Cactus League Play:
Dustin Ackley went 3-for-3 with a double and triple to lead the Mariners to a 13-7 Cactus League victory over the Padres. Ackley doubled in the first, singled in the 3rd and tripled in the 5th inning while batting leadoff for the first time this spring. Shortstop Brendan Ryan recorded a double and 2 RBI and catcher Adam Moore hit a solo home run to lead the 14-hit attack. Infielder Francisco Martinez (2×3, R, 2B, RBI) and designated hitter Carlos Peguero (2×5, R, RBI) joined Ackley with multi-hit games. Starting pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma (1-0) threw 35 pitches in the first inning, allowing 3 hits and one unearned run. Relievers Scott Patterson, George Sherrill and Tom Wilhelmsen each threw a scoreless inning.
The Mariners played a B game vs. the Reds this morning in Goodyear, losing 4-1. Taijuan Walker, Danny Hultzen and Erasmo Ramirez each threw 2.0 scoreless innings. James Paxton gave up 3 runs in 1.2 innings. DH Luis Jimenez accounted for the Mariners only run with a solo home run.
Edgar Martinez arrived in camp today and will be here for the next four days working with the Major League and Minor League players.
